Burbank, 2:30 PM, A Tribute to David Lynch

It’s rare that the death of a celebrity moves me to tears. In the hours after hearing that auteur director, artist, musician, and actor David Lynch had died, I found myself watching video clips of him talking about art, inspiration, and I began to cry. Lynch was one of my most revered artistic inspirations and it hurt to know that we would never be treated to a new David Lynch work again. This hurt moved me to revisit some of his movies and music, and to read his memoir-biography Room to Dream.

In the weeks following Lynch’s death, fans assembled a makeshift memorial shrine at the foot of the Bob’s Big Boy statue outside the Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank, California. Lynch was reported to have had lunch at the alliterative diner at 2:30 every day over the course of seven years, ordering a chocolate milkshake and coffee as he worked out ideas. This outpouring of love for David Lynch was the creative spark that prompted Burbank, 2:30 PM.

Fix your hearts or die!
In Twin Peaks: The Return, David Lynch as Deputy Director Gordon Cole recounts defending an F.B.I. colleague who is transgender. He proclaims, “When you became Denise, I told all of your colleagues, those clown comics, to fix their hearts or die.”

I’ve adopted “fix your hearts or die” as my own war cry.  A call to empathy before arms. To that end, I will be auctioning Burbank, 2:30 PM on my eBay account.

The auction starts on 02/12/25 at 2:30 PM ET and will run for 10 days. I will be donating 50% of the proceeds from this auction to Prism Counseling and Support, LLC, a Connecticut group that supports LGBTQ+ youth and adults. This donation will help Prism provide low to no cost skill building workshops, community building events, field trips, and more. I’ve chosen a local group in an effort to directly help a local community and effectively address specific needs.
